The average adult Valentine’s celebrant will spend $142.31 on Valentine’s Day gifts (6.3% more than last year), according to the National Retail Federation (@NRFnews). Total Valentine’s Day spending is expected to be ~$18.9B. More than 90% of celebrants are buying gifts for a romantic partner, and spending is expected to average ~$88 (~$11.7B in total spending). Males are expected to spend ~2.3x more on their romantic partner than women. Consumers ages 25-34 years old are both most likely to buy gifts for a significant other, and the most likely to spend the most ($125.95, on average). The main venue for Valentine’s shopping is department stores, and the most popular planned gifts are candy (53.2%) and flowers (37.8%). - Link
